Interpret this as you will, but at least in the course of my own life this is one rule I have tried to stick to. I give people the benefit of the doubt, and I never judge based on appearances or hearsay. It may be because of cars at the end of the day, but these people always bring their personal stories to the table — how they have come to own and build a specific car, or what has led them to be in the position they are in. Looking at these images from Larry, many people will just assume that David is a rich guy who has dumped a ton of money into his car. Because as we all know, owning and tuning a new-gen R35 can be a rather expensive hobby — a proverbial money pit if you will. But in fact, David has worked very hard to get his hands on — and modify — his GT-R dream machine. It was about a year ago that he finally managed to get his hands on one, and the need to turn it into something totally unique to him began straight away.

A Problem Has Occurred

This requirement called for long battery life, high storage to accommodate up to p video, and a lightweight processor, allowing the rocket to be robust and reliable while in flight. Unsurprisingly, James decided to use the Raspberry Pi for his build, settling for the model B. Not only did this lessen the weight of the Pi, but these modifications also lowered the power needed to run the setup, thus decreasing the size of battery needed.

This shrunken unit, completed with the addition of a Pi camera, meant the Pi could run for hours with the recording quality lowered to p60 and no audio captured.

“Rocket Man” (officially titled “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)”) is a song composed by Elton John and Bernie Taupin and originally performed by John.

Background[ edit ] The recording was taken from a live radio broadcast on 17 November , hence the album’s title. According to John, a live album was never planned as a release. Another contributing factor to the original album’s soft sales could have been the glut of Elton John product on the market at the time. John also had in release 2 full studio albums Elton John and Tumbleweed Connection and a movie soundtrack Friends when the live LP was issued.

Nonetheless, it became the fourth of John’s records to simultaneously land in the Top , making him the first act to do so since The Beatles. According to longtime NYC radio personality Dave Herman who can be heard at the beginning and end of the album , Elton John cut his hand at some point during the performance, and by the end of the show, the piano keys were covered with blood.

John and his band performed 13 songs during the radio broadcast. The original album included only six of the songs; a seventh, ” Amoreena ,” appeared as a bonus track on the album’s CD reissue. The other six performances remained until officially unreleased:

But when Walston returned home from touring in and began contemplating his next move, he no longer felt the same connection to that classic-rock sound. I want to be part of living music in this moment. Do albums matter anymore? But I was just outside that line of desperation. Looking back on the tour cycle for Essential Tremors, Walston can only chuckle.

Of course, not many bands experience the sort of growth in prominence and audience size that Walston and his compatriots have witnessed in the past several years.

The recent surge in popularity of vinyl records has given production companies a unique opportunity to make them even more rare and collectible. Tweet In the midst of college finals in December , I blew off studying for exams to see up-and-coming indie rock band Ra Ra Riot. I was surprised to find out they’d released a full-length followup to their first EP just a few months before, and even more surprised they were selling that album, The Rhumb Line, for 10 bucks.

Surprise became shock when I got home, pulled out the album and discovered it was a vivid orange, radically different from the meager collection of black vinyl I’d pilfered from my dad’s dusty and warped collection. The Rhumb Line was instantly the coolest album I owned, and it ignited a small obsession: Jack White’s Third Man Records has turned that obsession into a business.

Since the label established a physical location in Nashville in , they’ve been producing 7″ and 12″ vinyl for The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, and dozens of other artists. What makes them special–aside from the sure-fire record-selling star power of Jack White–is their devotion to the diehard collector.

A vinyl record that Mr Lowe, from Yatton, Somerset, kept at the bottom of a drawer in his home for more than 20 years is today named as the most valuable in the world by industry bible Record Collector. Duff absentmindedly put the original acetate disc, recorded in a Liverpool studio in , in the bottom of a drawer and forgot about it until the early s, when he sold it back to McCartney for an undisclosed sum. The recording later appeared in the Beatles’ Anthology series, which was released in the s.

I kept it for a week, George kept it for a week, John kept it for a week, [drummer] Colin Hanton kept it for a week, then Duff kept it for 23 years. Although 20, copies were made, most were destroyed, making it a collector’s item. Only three copies are known to exist. The Quarry Men recording at the top of the list was created in July by the Beatles trio plus John ‘Duff’ Lowe on piano and drummer Colin Hanlon, who headed into a studio after shelling out a few shillings.

The acetate version ended up in Lowe’s hands and he eventually sold it to Sir Paul, who is still thought to own it. He had it restored and it was used to make the handful of copies. Records made by UK metal acts are beginning to climb the chart as collectors spot lasting classics ‘The appeal of Fab Four collectables is worldwide. I was in Japan last week and when I asked the head buyer of one of the biggest dealing shops in the country what artist or genre was the most collectable in Japan, although he did not speak any English, he had one word for me, “Beatles”.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee not only crowned her longevity as a ruler but also their own as the top collectable punk band in the world.

In recent times, Funko have re-released pops from several of their lines and I wish they could do the same with some of the earlier wwe pops like undertaker, stone cold steve austin, macho man, etc. That way, the box designs would be in line with their current pops (red with the white/black gradient).

Despite the fact that I had several people attempting to find this one for me, luck wasn’t on our side that day. The good news was that Kate’s website announced they had copies available on their site to buy at the regular sales price on May 9th. Anyone that tried to get one that day knows what a fun day it was trying to order from the site. The web traffic was so high that everyone’s computer kept crashing, including mine.

Despite the crashing, the copies sold out in about an hour. A lot of people never got one that day either. Everyone tried really hard, but it was a mad rush to the finish line. I know how difficult it was, so I really do empathize with anyone that tried and couldn’t get through. It was not an easy task. Personally, I do think it was much nicer getting it from Kate’s shop, even with all the difficulty that day. Let’s face it – Record Store Day was a complete disaster.

Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor wrote the rap lyrics and produced the version. Salt-N-Pepa sampled Lyndell’s original recording and remade the song as a rap song throughout the recording. Mon, 9 Dec The “Rocket Man” single–some opinions and suppositions Dan King is of the opinion that Kate’s recording of “Rocket Man” is “danceable”, “light” and “fun”, and that the cover photo of Kate is therefore inappropriate because she looks “old” and “sad”. This opinion is remarkable to IED because it is in complete contrast to his own. In IED’s view Kate’s version of “Rocket Man”, in large part because of its lilting but sporadic reggae-cum-Celtic folk sections and Kate’s final, wordless minute of vocals, seemed at first listen as much as at the tenth extraordinarily poignant and sad–an extremely sophisticated and eloquent expression of the song’s tragic subject.

By contrast, in IED’s opinion, the photograph of Kate which Mercury Records put on the single’s cover was a bit too cheerful for the tone of Kate’s “Rocket Man”–let alone the even more starkly haunting “Candle in the Wind”. Still, even there IED agrees with Richard Caley that the shots there are actually two are wonderful–they certainly don’t make Kate appear “old” to this fan.

The photo session took place more than two years ago, and the shots are already very familiar to fans. Then, when Mercury decided to release the song as a single, they opted perhaps because Kate would or could not provide further artwork on short notice? Has anyone else noticed that the typographical error of “Villean” for “Uillean” pipes in the credits for “Rocket Man” has been corrected–without doubt at Kate’s request–on the outer, poster-sleeve of the seven-inch single?

The error remains on the single’s normal inside sleeve, which we may assume was printed earlier. Does this correction after the fact not suggest that Mercury probably did not invite Kate to review the cover art before the design went to the presses; but that they made the correction after Kate herself saw it in the first pressings that went on sale last month?

To keep the crew and the computers alive you have to shield them from both gamma rays and pions. As far as the crew is concerned both reaction products come under the heading of “deadly radiation. But according to an account in Elizabeth Rosenthal’s book His Song: The Musical Journey of Elton John, the song was inspired by Taupin’s sighting of either a shooting star or a distant aeroplane. The song describes a Mars -bound astronaut ‘s mixed feelings at leaving his family in order to do his job. Rosenthal’s account goes on to relate that the notion of astronauts no longer being perceived as heroes, but in fact as an “everyday occupation”, led Taupin to the song’s opening lines: And I’m gonna be high as a kite by then.

It is also known for being the first song in John’s catalog to feature what would become the signature backing vocal combination of his band at the time, Dee Murray , Nigel Olsson and Davey Johnstone.
